ABOUT

Bio
Skyler Dietze is a Vancouver Island–based public artist and industrial designer whose practice centers on timelessness, storytelling, and contextual relevance. He begins with place—its histories, people, and patterns—and lets those narratives guide form and proportion. Often working with reclaimed wood, Dietze allows the material’s grain, scars, and prior function to suggest the geometry of each piece, resulting in sculptures that feel discovered rather than imposed. His forms aim to be legible today and durable tomorrow: restrained silhouettes, honest joinery, and finishes selected to weather-in with dignity.
Equally attuned to concept and craft, Dietze pairs a studio tradition of handwork with the discipline of industrial design. Structural choices, species selection, and hardware are considered part of the story, ensuring that the work meets public use while remaining maintainable for stewards over time. Collaboration—with communities, curators, architects, and engineers—keeps each project grounded in its cultural context and responsive to the site. The outcome is art that quietly belongs: pieces that invite touch, carry memory, and strengthen a sense of place.
